Dragon Age: Origins Guide

Prepare for the ultimate guide! I really was frustrated with my first attempt to purge Ferelden from the Darkspawn, as a warrior…

So here is the answer to any problem (at least in DA:O), play a mage.
Seriously, this makes it so easier.

I guess I’ll give Nightmare a try soon.
As a mage…

And not to forget in case you had many problems with your former character, which couldn’t be a mage then, play a mage…

Kite them in Vael’s room…

As much as I hate writing about something out of frustration, but if you are wondering why Dragon Age: Origins got rated so high, you are not alone.
Seriously, I don’t get it. The story isn’t that tempting, the graphics range from great to awful resulting in being mediocre (characters and their animation really look splendid, but some object/terrain textures look downright terrible), and not to forget the biggest flaw, combat is a mess.
Some battles really do require proper group management, and that’s refreshing compared to slaughtering everything on your own with two swings, but those battles where about 20 cloned enemies get thrown at you at once are just emberassing in my eyes. And no, this didn’t happen once for me so far, in my eyes something went wrong, when you have to spam F9 (quickload) until the odds are in your favour.
Why did they even come up with a new ruleset anyway? It’s still D&D with more/higher numbers, and that’s a design failure I guess. At least it’s a waste of resources if you ask me.
Not to forget that it’s an odd design decision to rely on exploiting the retarded AI to overcome those clone wars. Yes it’s true, enemies don’t give a damn if you pull them in small groups. World of Warcraft certainly had too much influence here.

So here you have it, it’s not a review, but some sad truth, Dragon Age: Origins isn’t as awesome as all those reviews pretend. It isn’t a new Baldurs Gate, I actually would compare it with Mass Effect.
This isn’t bad at all, but reason enough to be disappointed.

Oh and… what’s the point in leveling up if everything else in the world does it too again? Oblivion sucked in that department for a reason.

Buy Dragon Age: Origins ffs, all those Reviews can’t be wrong. But don’t get the DLC (unless it’s free of course), as it’s just ridiculous… =P

Subs for everyone…

… those who read the forums, may be very well informed about that anyway, but those who wouldn’t even dare to click on something related with the abreviation SS, or don’t even set a foot into that crematory, can get those information here too! AWESOME. =P
Not to forget those, who don’t give a damn, as they don’t play NavyField, magnificent!

It’s basically about the new nation, which should be upon us quite soon… retreating in December I guess. Oh, I’m sorry, I meant surrendering… no, ah crap, this just didn’t happen!
Whatever, France will be playable quite soon =P
Here you have a shiny ship-tree if you are interested. If you inspect it carefuly you inevitably will see submarines too… many submarines, actually 6 tiers of torpedo pleasure.

So what does that mean?
1.) France will be a submarine nation, with those intended 4 tiers spread across 6 tiers, reducing the grind to new vessels.
2.) SDE changed their mind about submarines in general and there will be 6 tiers for every nation now, instead of 4.

I personally stick with 2.)… as this sounds reasonable, because the change of heart when it comes to SS3 (eg. Type VIIc instead of Type IX for KM) just didn’t make any sense anyway.
So if this is really the case there is a high chance to see the Type XXI (and obviously Gato/Balao), which is awesome in my eyes… =P
But having 6 tiers means a lot more, like a lot of balancing from earlier tiers, as the level itself won’t change much, but basically the SS6 will have the power of the SS4 (and a higher level of course)… it just would be too optimistic (and bold) to believe in a 50 knot submarine which oneshots everything. The SS class switches from an underdog to a real option in NavyField, to be honest it really feels more like an experiment at the moment (which works), but with 6 tiers ahead (I guess SS6 won’t require lvl 120 though… more around the late 90s) it’s a viable option.
So if you don’t have a submarine yet, hear my words… you better start leveling your BO now, SS1 will be even worse than they are now (sounds harsher, than it really is).

Last but not least, that’s my guess on the KM progression:

SS1 (lvl 37): Type II
SS2 (lvl 46): Type VIIa
SS3 (lvl 59): Type VIIc
SS4 (lvl 72): Type IXa
SS4 (lvl 83): Type IXc
SS6 (lvl 96): Type XXI

Sounds good? Yeah I like it too how it’s formated, but handle with care, it’s just MY guess, nothing official. =P
But as always, praise me if I’m right… lol

Btw, I love clouds even more now…

For your eyes only…

Not sure if anyone is interested in this, I guess it has been pointed out already anyway, but I’m quite bored atm, so I did some random field tests with my Type VIIc (KM SS3)…

Things I didn’t know so far (are bold btw.):

Divetime is at around 2:26 mins (146 seconds). That’s the time where the depth meter shows the green (2nd) level, which means effectively hidden/submerged. If you count emerging and submerging in it’s around 152 seconds.

Air refill time obviously is only affected by a Planesman (I’m just pointing this out, as some still believe otherwise), and apparently isn’t capped at 90 seconds (I’m at around 87). So feel free to boost your Planesman.

Proximity duds (which still explode near the ship) deal around 400 damage against the battleships from the test mission… so yeah, the KM still has a dud rate, ways above those 2.7% people seem to waste bandwidth with. About 15% if I can trust my ass… =P

And don’t even think about not using a Sonarman at all…
